Dhotrey to Srikhola
Sandakphu (11,941 ft) is the highest point of the Singalila Ridge in Darjeeling district in West Bengal. Four of the five highest peaks in the world, Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu can be seen from its summit. It also affords a pristine view of the entire Kanchenjunga Range.
The trek along the Singalila Ridge to Sandakphu and Phalut is one of the most popular ones in the Eastern Himalayas due to the grand vistas of the Kanchenjunga range and the Everest range which can be seen from the ridge, and also for the seasonal wildflower blooms and birding. The famous “Sleeping Buddha” formation of peaks (Kanchenjunga Family) is an ultimate treat to watch on this particular trek route.
The trail is inside Singalila National Park, home to numerous species of birds and wildflowers. Nonetheless, this Eastern Himalayan Diversity Hot Spot is home to endangered Red Panda. It is rare but not impossible to get a chance to see this cutest shy animal. The walk is quite straightforward and may be completed by young or elderly persons in reasonable physical condition. On the road to Tumling, you’ll pass through a picturesque alpine meadow with views of the adjacent mountains. Scenic sunrises over the Himalayas will enchant you at multiple stops, and even more, beautiful vistas will only serve to break the enchantment. Due to the sudden climb in altitude, the last road to the Sandakphu trek will be the most demanding and rewarding. When you reach the top and take in the breathtaking view, you’ll forget about your troubles and exhaustion.
