Do You Want to Trek at Annapurna Conservation Area in Nepal ?

Poon Hill trek is a short and relatively easy trek into the Annapurna region. This trek is suitable for those who do not have much time to spend with a burning desire to observe the beauty of snow-capped mountains. Himalayan Memories organize this trek in 11 days from Raxaul to Raxaul. Those who want to start from Kathmandu airport can avail the same program too. Poon Hill trek starts from Nayapul after one and half hour drive from Pokhara. This trek passes beautiful villages of Ulleri, Ghorepani, and Ghandruk. You will enjoy the trek in the spectacular mountain scenery through delightful villages inhabited by Gurungs and Magars. Around every corner is an exciting glance of the high mountains, whole horizons of which will be open to you as you reach the high points of your trek. The viewpoint on Poonhill (3210 m) offers the best view of mountains and sunrise. Dense rhododendron forests full of birds and imaging valleys make your trip more enjoyable. Mt. Dhaulagiri ranges, Mt. Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Barasikhar, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, Hiunchuli, and Manaslu ranges will view from this trek. As the sun touches the snow-capped summits, the Himalayan giants, Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Annapurna (8,091 m) along with a maze of other peaks, slowly begin to appear, like magic, before our eyes. Trek Note

This trek can be accessed from 2 routes – One via Howrah – Raxaul – Pokhara for ongoing trekkers Ex-Kolkata City & another route via Kathmandu – Pokhara. The first route is by train & th 2nd one is via flight. Find below both the details for your kind understanding. 

1st Route: Howrah Station to Raxaul Station & then to Pokhara:

Day 1: Receive guests at Howrah Station

Board 13043 HWH RXL Exp from Howrah St. at 22:50 Hrs

Day 2: Transfer to Pokhara (4595 Ft)

Arrive at Raxaul, our representative will recognize you at Railway Station and take you to Indo-Nepal border in a Horse Carriage (tanka). Our reserved vehicle will be waiting at the border which will pick you up and drop you to Hotel in Pokhara at night. Have lunch on the highway & dinner at hotel in Pokhara.

Note: Kindly check your train timings & discuss with Himalayan Memories team before you book your train tickets. There is no direct connection from Raxaul to Pokhara, neither there is any hotel near Raxaul station to stay for a night. So, we will be planning our pickup schedule depending on your train arrivals. 

Generally guests who reach Raxaul in the morning will have an entire day’s drive to reach Pokhara. And those who reach Raxaul station at late afternoon will have to adjust with a whole night drive. They will be reaching Pokhara city at mid-night hours.

2nd Route: Kathmandu Airport to Pokhara:

Day 1: Receive guests at Kathmandu Airport (4500 Ft)

On the first day of your arrival, we will receive you at Kathmandu Airport & take you to hotel. Check-in & rest for the day. You may go for a local sightseeing tour (extra chargeable). Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Transfer to Pokhara (4595 Ft)

After breakfast, check-out from hotel & drive (6-8 hours / 212 Km) to Pokhara. The main factor that will affect your journey is traffic around the Kathmandu Valley depending on the time of day. Check-in at hotel in Pokhara. Overnight stay at hotel in Pokhara.

DAY-WISE TREK ITINERARY

Day 01: Receive guests at Kathmandu Airport (4500 Ft)

On the first day of your arrival, we will receive you at Kathmandu Airport & take you to hotel. Check-in & rest for the day. You may go for a local sightseeing tour (extra chargeable). Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Transfer to Pokhara (4595 Ft)

After breakfast, check-out from hotel & drive (6-8 hours / 212 Km) to Pokhara. The main factor that will affect your journey is traffic around the Kathmandu Valley depending on the time of day. Check-in at hotel in Pokhara. Overnight stay at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 03: Pokhara (4595 Ft) - Nayapul (3500 Ft) -Tikhedunga – Ulleri (6500 Ft)

After breakfast, check-out from Pokhara & then after we will take you to Nayapul by a private car / van (2 hrs by rough road). During the hike, we pass many local villages, teahouses, gentle green rolling hills, rivers and meet lot of local people on the trail. After crossing the Tikhedunga Khola on the suspension bridge, the trail begins to climb up quite steeply on a stone staircase that is more than 3200 steps. After climbing the hill we can see Mt. Annapurna South (7219 m) and Hiunchuli (6441 m). Nayapul to Ulleri is a 4-5 Hrs trek. Overnight stay at Lodge in Ulleri.

Day 04: Ulleri (6500 Ft) – Nangethanti - Ghorepani (9500 Ft)

It is a very pleasant part of the trek. We walk in the jungle most of the day. If you come in the spring you will see a lot of Rhododendron flowers. You have the chance to see many wild birds and animals. You can see a great view of many snow-capped mountains. Ulleri to Ghorepani is a 6-7 Hrs trek. Overnight stay at Lodge in Ghorepani.

Day 05: Ghorepani (9500 Ft) - Poon Hill (10532 Ft) – Tadapani (8600 Ft)

We get up early in the morning with warm clothes and climb up Poonhill. It is not necessary to take much with you as we return later to collect our main rucksacks. It is about one hour walking to get to Poonhill. You will see the best sunrise and magnificent view of the Himalayas. Peaks which you will see are Annapurna South, Bahari Shikhar, Hiuchuli, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri ranges, Tukuche peak, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, Mt.Manaslu ranges, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and others. After this unforgettable view, we come back to Ghorepani for breakfast. Trek to Tadapani. The hike starts with quite a steep uphill section to Deurali pass. It is a similar elevation to Poonhill. We will see all the mountains from here as well. After that, we hike (6-7 Hrs walking) down to Tadapani. Overnight stay at Lodge in Tadapani.

Day 06: Tadapani (8600 Ft) - Chomrong (7100 Ft)

Tadapani to Chhomrong trek distance is 7.6 kilometers. This is a remarkable part of this trek. Majority of the Trek Agencies in India don’t opt for this route as there is an alternate route to trek down to Ghandruk directly cutting short one full day. But we at Himalayan Memories have added this for reasons you will realize once you reach there at Chomrong.

Chomrong is the only place from which you can reach Annapurna Base Camp and has developed into a major trekking center. It takes 7 to 8 hours to reach the elevation of Chomrong from Tadapani exploring Chuile, Kimrong Khola, Ghurjung, Taulung villages. Overnight stay at Lodge in Chomrong.

Day 07: Chomrong (7100 Ft) - Jhinu Danda (5600 Ft) - Ghandruk (6300 Ft)

Today we will trek to Jhinu Danda at first. It will take approx 1 to 1.5 Hrs time to reach Jhinu Danda. Now, it’s time for some real good hot bath; that too in a natural hot spring.

It is not necessary to take much with you as we return later to collect our main rucksacks after having a bath at Jhinu Natural Hot Spring. Return to hotel at Jhinu for lunch & then after we continue to hike to Ghandruk through the Baisi Kharka (Buffalo pasture). 

Ghandruk is one of the biggest villages of Gurung people. There is the Gurung Culture Museum. Staying in Ghandruk is a wonderful experience, as the village has a friendly vibe to it and offers amazing views of Himalayan giants Annapurna, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare (Fishtail). Jhinu Danda to Ghandruk is 6-7 Hrs trek. Overnight stay at Lodge in Ghandruk.

Day 08: Ghandruk (6300 Ft) - Kimche (5500 ft) - Nayapul (3500 Ft) - Pokhara (4595 Ft)

If it is a clear morning we may see Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (fishtail) and Annapurna III very close. We have our breakfast with views. This day, we walk to Kimche from Ghandruk. It takes slowly 1 hours trek.

We will have to wait for sometime over here till the time our vehicles reach us to. Board reserved car / van & then an off-road ride for about 1 Hr will take us all to Nayapul. This is the end point of our trek. Our vehicles might get changed here. Board vehicle from Nayapul & drive back to Pokhara. Overnight stay at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 09: Transfer to Kathmandu (4500 Ft)

After breakfast, check-out from hotel & drive (6-8 hours / 212 Km) back to Kathmandu. Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 10: Drop at Kathmandu Airport

After breakfast, check-out from hotel & get ready to be dropped at Kathmandu Airport.
