Sankri
Kedarkantha trek is nestled at an altitude of 12,500 ft. Kedarkantha is one of the majestic peaks of the great Himalayan range. One of the most popular winter treks, Kedarkantha fascinates numerous hikers and trekkers from all over the country and is perfect for both beginners and experts.
Knee-deep snow in winters, mesmerizing view from the top, and the beautiful and easy trails make it popular among trekkers.
The slight advantage of trekking up the Kedarkantha peak in the warmer months is that it is a little more on the easy level, as compared to a snow-covered trail. Either way, the journey uphill is absolutely delightful and once we reach the crest to find the stunning, expansive view of thirteen Himalayan peaks in front of us and the whole world below – we realize it is definitely worth all the effort and time! We cover a host of different places like Sankri village and Juda Ka Talab to even reach the Kedarkantha base camp, thereby creating an upbeat and constantly refreshing experience.
Not only for the adventure enthusiasts to enjoy thrilling challenges, but the Kedarkantha Trek is also an ideal destination for nature lovers to bask in the beauty of undisturbed nature and rejoice in the blissful moments with unforgettable experiences.
So what you are waiting for…. Let’s start Planning….
Receive guests from Dehradun early in the morning and drive to Sankri. The drive is rather long but extremely scenic as you will see beautiful valleys and quaint villages throughout the route. You will pass through Mussoorie, Purola, Mora and Netwar, while following the Tons River as well. On arrival at Sankri, check-in hotel or homestay and rest.
Today it will be our acclimatization day. We will take tour round the village.
Take a walk around the village – markets , schools , playground, gardens, talk with the locals. Experience the slow paced village life of Sankri. Locals are very friendly and would be more than happy to tell you about their world and with all the curiosity would like to know about your world.
After breakfast, we make our way out of Sankri village and start the steep climb up the hill to Juda-ka-Talab. We have 4 km to cover. The climb is steep, since the lake is located at the height of 9,100 feet. The forest of oak and tall pine trees with huge mountains in the background surrounds the glacial lake and offers an enchanting view.
The path goes through Saud village which is a gentle climb. Walking trails will be steep at times and at times it will be leveled grounds with green and dense forests running along with you. At the end of the day, the camps will be put up near Juda Ka Talab which is a closed camping site surrounded by tall pine and oak trees and mountain slopes.
Excitement is building up as we start our trek towards the Kedarkantha base camp. The trail snakes through oak-laden forests, wide meadows and more evidence of remote life. When you are close to the base camp, you can see the arch of the Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Ranglana and Kala Nag ranges.
Wander around this scenic place easily and soak all the fresh tidings of nature’s gift while camping under the galaxy here.
Today, we begin at two or 3 am to witness the glorious sunrise at the Kedarkantha peak. You will get to feel the welcoming and filtered sunrays from the mountains of the Yamunotri and Gangotri range and also of Kinner Kailash ranges. Thirteen peaks of the Himalayas, all bask together in the glory of the sun. We make a brief stop here. All this beauty deserves some admiration.
Shortly afterward, we’ll head back to the Kedarkantha Base Camp.
It is time to say goodbye to the base camp, but with a lot of memories in our heart. Through endless pathways full of oak and maple, we witness the phenomenal view of the trek. It is wondrous how nature’s splendor has been spread across for us like a picture to see.
You can take the rest of the day off or can visit the Sankri village
We will say our good byes and will drive back to Dehradun.
